In South Carolina, near Charleston, there’s an historic island called Wadmalaw Island. It’s 10 miles long and 6 miles wide with a sandy soils and a sub-tropical climate: the perfect conditions to grow the Camiillia Sinesis plant (otherwise know as tea)! That’s where you’ll find Bigelow Tea’s Charleston Tea Garden® , America’s largest working tea garden.
Because Wadmalaw Island cannot be commercially developed, it’s a natural oasis and a step back in time. Bigelow Tea purchased the garden in 2003 and now grows and produces American Classic Tea. Guests are invited to the grounds for weddings, tours and even a variety of music festivals. It’s a tea-riffic way to experience historic Southern culture and a living piece of American history! Come join us!
Open 7 days a week, with the exception of a few holidays, the Charleston Tea Garden® is the perfect place to take a day trip. Bring the family, pack a lunch and enjoy the beauty of the tea fields. The experience is not only educational but more importantly one-of-a-kind. You will learn first-hand how tea is made during an informative Factory Tour. You can also take an enjoyable Trolley Ride through the tea fields, shop our unique Garden Gift Shop and help yourself to all of the iced American Classic Tea you can drink.
