At the beginning of the year I made a lifestyle choice for myself to lose 40 lbs before my 40th birthday (40 by 40). So far it has been challenging (because I LOVE SWEETS!), but rewarding. I have met with a physical trainer and nutritionist to help with my goal. I joined a gym and try to exercise at least 3-4 times per week. I am beginning to learn about portion control, to walk away from temptation, and asking myself “do I really want those extra calories and pounds?” Using apps on my phone like Map My Run, Fitness Pal, and Weight Tracker are helping tremendously with my progress.

 Since making these changes, I have noticed my energy level has increased, my stress level has decreased, and my health issues are improved.  Just changing a little here and there can really make a big difference. Eating more fruits and vegetables, eating lean meats, and increasing my water intake has really made a difference in my life. The pounds are slowly coming off, but my confidence level is rising. I have lost 11 lbs so far, and am on my way.

 Having a good support system also helps. My co-workers and friends outside of work help keep me on track and motivated. It is easy to put the pounds on but harder to take them off. If you are determined, you can set your mind to do whatever you want to do. I have a new outlook on life and am trying to strive to live a healthier life.
