Every year Bigelow Tea employees volunteer to participate in Junior Achievement of  Western Connecticut. The mission of JA is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  To fulfill this mission, JA partners community volunteers with teachers in grades K -12 to implement curriculum focusing on three key areas: entrepreneurship, financial literacy and workplace readiness.  For 5 weeks in January and February, Pat Sorgenti, Bigelow Corporate Human Resources Manager, taught the course entitled “Our Region” to the 4th Grade class at Assumption School in Fairfield.  The lessons introduce students to entrepreneurship and show how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community.   Students solve problems by weighing risks and rewards.  At the culmination of the course, the students play a fun and competitive game called “Bottom Line” where they make choices that will lead to either profitability or loss for their company.  All of the companies were profitable!
