Phil and Chris Simms Quarterback Bigelow Green Tea Effort, May 1, 2006 by Brand Week, Staff Reporter
NEW YORK -- Bigelow Tea said Monday it has signed former NFL
star Phil Simms and his son, Chris Simms, quarterback with the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to appear in a new ad campaign for Bigelow's
signature line of green teas. Financial terms were not
released.
The campaign, via Tracey Edwards O'Neil, Manchester, N.H., will
be anchored by print breaking this month in The New York Times, The
Wall Street Journal, Tampa Tribune, Sports Illustrated, Money,
Forbes, Golf, Golf Digest, and Best Life. Support will include
radio and national POP. Spend was not released.
Steve Rosner and Bob Philp, 16W Marketing, Rutherford, N.J.,
which represents both Simms, negotiated the deal. This is not the
first time the Fairfield, Conn.-based Bigelows has used a star
athlete in a marketing effort. A Bigelow Tea campaign late last
year featured New York Yankees' manager Joe Torre.
"This is our first endorsement of a product as a father-son team
and we are honored to be on board with a well-respected, family
owned company like Bigelow Tea," Phil Simms, who played for 15
years with the New York Giants and led them to wins in Super Bowl
XXI and XXV, said in a statement. "Diet, nutrition and a healthy
lifestyle are the reasons I drink Bigelow's Green Tea, and it just
tastes great."
