Study Shows Green Tea Could Help Burn Tummy Fat by Carey Dodson
Looking for an extra boost to help
lose that extra belly fat? Then green tea could be what you need. A
recent study is showing that an antioxidant in it called cetechins
helps folks lose weight (as well as other benefits) when combined
with exercise.
Cetechins have been linked to the reduction of various diseases
such as cancer, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, lowering of
cholesterol as well as improving oral health. A study released in
February in the Journal of Nutrition looked at 132 obese adults who
consistenly consumed calories daily and exercised about 25 minutes
per day. The group was split in to two categories: One of the
control groups consumed a drink of 39 milligrams of caffeine and
another group added a drink with 625 milligrams of catechins. After
12 weeks of observation, those that were drinking green tea had
lost 2 pounds more than the control group, a total of 4.4
pounds.
The findings of the study show that those that there could be an
increase loss of tummy fat as well as FFA and TG levels for those
that consume green tea. Additional research is warranted to further
clarify the mechanisms responsible for these effects.
Studies have shown that green tea could also increase athletic
endurance by as much as 24%. Also, a recent study in Japan showed
that mice that were given a green tea extract equivalent to
drinking 4 cups per day. The mice achieved an improvement in
endurance of between 8-24% and also displayed an increase in
ability to exercise and calories burned after 10 weeks.
The group that consumed green tea also had a reduction in
abdominal, subcutaneous abdominal fat as well as
triglycerides.
In addition to cetechins, it is rich in other antioxidants such as
epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG ). EGCG is believed to be
responsible for stimulating the release of fat in to the blood
stream after which it is flushed out of the body. Green tea also
increases a process called thermogenesis or the production of heat
in the body. It is also a source of caffeinne which helps to turn
on the thermogenesis process.
For anyone looking to lose those extra inches or just maintain
health, a green tea weight loss diet should be a part your
plan.
