by Cindy Brancucio, Tea Blending Division
Working for Bigelow Tea has broadened my awareness to the
concept of community and sustainability. Our busy lives don't
often give us time to absorb the importance of individual efforts
and how they matter in such a large way. But when your employer
makes a conscious effort on a daily basis to stress that every
little bit makes a difference, it has made me rethink about taking
the time to start making that small wave in the pool.
Over the last year I have been visiting the two Veterans
Hospitals in the state; one in Hartford the other in
Torrington. I bring samples of tea and spend a couple of
hours talking to Veterans. I found myself surprised at the
number of women that served in the military many years ago.
The satisfaction that you get in return for taking the time
to "remember" them and thank them for their service...can't be
explained. And they LOVE the tea!
My first individual project is this Saturday. I am
sponsoring what I hope will be an annual food drive at a local
restaurant to benefit the Spooner House, a homeless shelter in my
community. It took a little bit of time on my part, but the
reception and help that I am getting from friends and community is
exceptional. Sometimes it just takes that one person to take
the lead. I am pleasantly surprised at how many people have
fallen in behind me to help and contribute.
It is so true that the best fun in the world is helping someone
you will never get to meet! Take a step in the right
direction and you'll find it is so worth the trip!
