Energy Efficient Lighting

"How is a $4 spiral light bulb supposed to save me energy and money?"  That was what I was thinking several years ago when I was attending the Lighting Fair, hosted by our local utility company, held in our Fairfield facility. I was trying to be supportive of the effort, but the added costs weren't making sense. I was talking with someone about these new compact florescent bulbs, and they assured me they would save me money if I switched out my regular incandescent bulbs, so I gave it a try. I replaced most of the bulbs in my home with the new bulbs. When I received my first electric bill, to my surprise, I saved $25. I get those savings every month and the new light bulbs quickly paid for themselves. They also last longer, so I rarely ever have to change bulbs. Now that is all we buy. The energy fair was a winner for me and I look forward to the next one.
