Bigelow Tea Celebrates Becoming a Live Green CT! Green Business Designee

Daphne Dixon, president & co-founder of Live Green Connecticut! and Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau were at Bigelow headquarters, 201 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield on Wednesday, July 15, at 3 p.m. for a Green Ribbon Cutting, during which they presented Cindi Bigelow and the Bigelow Tea Green Team with the highly coveted Fairfield Green Business Designation Platinum Level Award.

This highest-level award recognizes Bigelow Tea for having completed 26 sustainable practices within the categories of Education, Water, Indoor Environment, Transportation, and Energy. Bigelow’s green efforts exceeded the minimum number of requirements of 20 by six.

The Green Business Designation program celebrates companies and organizations who demonstrate leadership in sustainable practices. Businesses indicate which sustainability practices they already perform, and select any additional ones to which they can commit. Based on the number of practices, they may earn recognition at the Green or Platinum level. Action items can be as easy as using low, or no-VOC paint when freshening up walls or posting signs in bathrooms and kitchens encouraging water conservation. Designees receive a Green Business Designation Program certificate, Green Ribbon Cutting, and listing on LiveGreenCT.org.

First Selectman Mike Tetreau stated, “On behalf of the Town of Fairfield, I wish to congratulate Bigelow Tea on receiving Live Green Connecticut!’s Fairfield Green Business Designation Platinum Level Award! Fairfield is fortunate to have businesses like Bigleow Tea and Freshii that are incorporating sustainability practices on a daily basis. I also want to commend Live Green Connecticut! and its founder, Daphne Dixon, a Fairfield resident, for helping to develop and design the Green Business Designation Program that encourages businesses to save money and become more energy efficient.”

This award is an honor but no surprise when you consider that Bigelow Tea’s mission is always to enrich life’s everyday moments by infusing passion into all they do.

“We aim to be good community partners. And I am pleased to tell you that I am not alone in this vision,” says Cindi Bigelow. “These accomplishments are driven by total employee teamwork.  By developing a program revolving around our core values: Greening, Wellness and Community, and establishing teams throughout the organization, we are continually finding ways to improve on best practices and conserve our valuable resources.”
